Athena is pleased to announce the election of two new board directors, two associate directors, and the re-election of a board member during its December meeting. These appointments mark a bold step forward in Athena’s mission to advance women in STEM, expand its global reach, recruit male allies, and equip the STEM workforce with critical AI mastery.
The newly elected board directors bring a wealth of expertise from leading global corporations and premier institutions spanning life sciences, technology, and professional services. Their combined leadership, innovation, and diversity advocacy skills will be instrumental in advancing Athena’s vision of empowering one million women leaders in STEM by 2030. Together, they will drive strategic initiatives that enhance Athena’s global presence and foster impactful corporate partnerships to support women’s leadership development worldwide.
“As Athena accelerates its push for more women leading in STEM, we’re expanding leadership training programs and upskilling the exceptional and untapped talent ready to meet the demands of today’s global workforce,” said Holly Smithson, Athena CEO. “Our commitment to broadening access to leadership resources and harnessing emerging technologies like AI positions us at the forefront of innovation and impact. These new board appointments reflect the visionary leadership needed to fulfill our mission of elevating women in STEM and driving transformative change across industries.”
In addition to the new board directors, Athena also introduced two associate directors for a one-year term. This initiative provides rising leaders with a unique opportunity to gain boardroom exposure, expand their influence, and hone leadership skills essential for advancing to top positions.
“By fostering the next generation of leaders through our associate director program, Athena strengthens its commitment to cultivating a robust leadership pipeline that will shape the future of STEM,” Smithson added.
