Athena has submitted its biennial 2022 Communication on Engagement report, expressing its continued support for the United Nations Global Compact.
In 2018, Athena proudly announced its UN collaboration as a signatory to the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) and its Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). These 17 SDGs are a universal call to action for businesses to close the gender gap and other widespread inequities. Athena’s collaboration with the United Nations is focused on SDG 5, Gender Equality. As a fundamental human right, gender equality is integral to achieving the other 16 SDGs. Yet despite progress, women and girls around the world do not fully experience equal rights and their potential as economic, social and sustainable development change-agents remains untapped. Corporate leadership on gender equality is essential.
As Athena renews its ongoing commitment to this global initiative and its principles, the report outlines the leadership activities that highlight the support Athena is lending to advance the Global Compact’s principles.
“Gender Equality is more than a goal in itself.
It is a precondition for meeting the challenge of reducing poverty,
promoting sustainable development, and building good governance.”
– Kofi Annan , UN Secretary-General | 1997-2006
In promoting the business resources of the UNGC as the world’s largest corporate sustainability initiative, Athena is advancing this worldwide, principle-based framework -within the STEM business community - as companies look to build globally competitive businesses.
